The best way to work your business is off line. Don’t get me wrong, technology is a great thing. Facebook, Twitter, now Pinterest, etc., are wonderful sites to connect. If you want leads NOW, then you have to get out there and meet people. Here my top 5 tips that I’ve learned from my mentors that are EASY to implement and can get you 50 leads or more a week.
Work Networking Events
Start with MeetUp.com. Look for other local networking events online. Try to hit two events of interest a week. Go there to get business cards. No need to bring yours. Strike up conversation and ask rapport questions. After 5-10 minutes, ask for their business card or contact information. Don’t get tied up in conversation. Since you’re at a networking event say, “Hey Jon, I promised myself to meet a certain amount of people tonight. Can I get your card? I’ll see if I can bring some business to you.” Write down some key things about them; family, interests, financial situation, desires, etc. on the back of their cards or in your smartphone right after you say goodbye.
Set yourself a goal of 10-25 cards, depending on the crowd, per night. The key is in the follow-up! Call them the next day and tell them it was a pleasure getting to know them. Depending on how much rapport you developed and their current situation ask, “Hey Jon, just throwing it out there…would you be open to making money that has nothing to do with their occupation?”
Contest Entry Boxes
Get to know some local businesses and ask permission to place a fish bowl near the cash register. Example: Have a sign on the bowl stating, “FREE dinner or lunch for two. Drawing once a week. $40 Value!” When calling the winner with instruction to redeem the prize, and when calling every business card contact in the bowl, tell them they won information on how to make money online. Send them an email with your info and presentation link.
Two ways here…First, call every realtor you see a sign (and other businesses) and ask the same question stated earlier, “Would you be open to making money that has nothing to do with real estate?”
Second, order your own signs. Place 50 or more signs on a few busy intersections over the weekend. (Check your local laws) Have a memorable website or local phone number to a Google Voice number to field calls. Have an enthusiastic message stating you are looking for positive, outgoing people, etc. Follow-up and remember your training. Placing the signs out late Thursday night and picking them back up late Sunday night works best.
Start snaggin’ those business cards from the corkboards in shops, fitness centers, businesses, etc. If anything, these people will most likely be open to generating some income. If you get a recording, leave a message. If no response, call again in 3 days and follow up in a professional email.
Post it Notes
Go to your local office supply store a get a stamp made stating something like, “Part Time Income, $500-$1500 a month, Will Train, Call 555-5555.” Make sure it fits a standard square post it note. Buy the brilliant color ones. Stamp each note in a stack, place it in your pocket and post them around town; bathroom, gas stations, restaurants, parked cards, corkboards, etc.
Just Throwing It Out There
If you just met somebody in line at a grocery store and strike up a conversation, just before you part ways, don’t be afraid to pose this question, “Just throwing it out there, would you be open to a side project that didn’t interfere with what you’re currently doing? Yes, great, I’ll send you an email with the video link and check it out. It may or may not be for you. If not, no big deal.” You know what to do.
Now get out there and make it happen!
