If you’re a person who wants to achieve certain things in your life, in whatever aspect in your life; health, relationships or financial goals, in order to achieve the best results, you have to plan it out.

I was recently listening to Darren Hardy and Brian Tracy discussing goal achieving. They both agree that goal writing is the first and necessary step to achieve anything in life.  The next step is to break it down by actions required; daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.  If it’s important to you, you also need a coach or mentor to help you with the plan.

I was listening to Robert Kiyosaki the other day and he mentioned that all top achievers have coaches. If it’s important to you, get a coach. He uses Tiger Woods as an example of being a great golfer, #1 in the world, and still works with Foley, his coach, at least weekly.

The Plan

I want to focus on how to keep your goals in front of you.  If you don’t have them in your consciousness each and every day, it’s easy to get distracted and not perform the actions necessary for achievement.

1. Vision Board

How do you see yourself once you achieve the level of success you desire?  New house? New car? Vacations?   Keep in mind of who you become on your journey but once you receive the wealth, what would you spend it on?  Put those pictures up on a board or what that lifestyle looks like.  Keep it digitally.  Use a program like Powerpoint and create a digitally picture of other lifestyle pictures mashed into one.  Save it and use it as your wall paper on your computer.

2. Reminders

Since the overwhelming amount of people have smartphones, use calendar reminders and the reminder app like I have on my iPhone.  You should be scheduling your day extensively on your calendar. Program your top three into your phone throughout the day and fine tune the list before you go to bed to remind you of your actions needed when you wake the next morning.

3. Accountability Coach

Pair up with friend to share you journey with. Set goals with each other and encourage each other to reach them.  Each of you should have the other’s goals. Make a game of it. Whoever doesn’t reach “X” by this date buys dinner, etc.  Push each other!

4.  Meditation

This may seem a little strange but what you think about is what you become. Take a few minutes or more a day to pray, imagine the lifestyle, the relationships, the happiness on your family’s faces, the admiration from family and friends, the disgust from the people you proved wrong by achieving your success, etc. This is very important.  Who you believe you are, you will become.

Now is the time. Get going.  Make those vision boards, set the calendar and reminders, call a trusted friend who shares the vision and reflect on who you want to become. Your future is what you make of it.  Take full responsibility and accountability for your actions to reach the goals you want to achieve.

 #1 – Higher Education Equals Success

School DOES NOT equal success. 80% of all newly graduated students are currently unemployed or underemployed. Besides, our school system doesn’t make you financially smart. We barley get enough to balance a checkbook. Although school makes you book smart with math, science, english, social studies (a big chunk of that we may never use), it does not make you financially smart.  School directs you to think like an employee not as independent entrepreneur, innovator or investor.

Key Questions for Setting Up the Close

After the prospect has reviewed your network marketing business presentation, ask “What did you like best about the presentation?” Get some feedback.  Notice you’re focusing on the positive.  Let’s them speak and agree with the great things your company offers.

Next: ”Let me ask you a question. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being you have zero interest in 10 being you ready started right now where are you?”

If it a low number, “What can I help you with get to a (a number 1 or two higher then they responded)?”  Listen.  This is where your training and judgement determine whether it’s worth your time to pursue or just say, “This doesn’t sound like it’s for you.” Move on.  Next.  Contact them in a couple of months of see if things have changed which may open them up to hearing the info again.  This is a multi-touch business afterall.  If it’s a good number, go into the four question close.

The Four Question Close

If they answer with a 6, 7, 8…go into the Four Question Close:

1. “Based on what you just seen,  if you were to get started with this company on a part-time basis, approximately how much would you need to earn per month in order to make this worth your time?”

- Listen. Manage expectations.  I they say a unreasonable number, bring them back to reality.

2. “Approximately how many hours will you commit each week to develop that kind of income?”

- Determine their commitment level. You should have a good idea of their time schedule after building rapport.  Is it reasonable within their schedule and managing the rest of their daily schedule?

3. “How many months are you willing to commit in order to receive $xxxx amount of income per month?”

- This answer should provide you with an idea of the blueprint required to meet their expectations.

4. “If I could show you how to develop an income of (their answer) per month working (their answer) hours a week over the course of (their answer) months would be ready to get started? “

Show them the blue print of how to achieve their goal.  It should be realistic but also push them outside their comfort zone.

A Final Closing Line

Practice with some fellow associates.  Be confident.  Remember, it’s your network marketing business, you get to choose who you want to work with.  They need what you have to cure their financial woes.  Have posture.  Treat it like a big business and business people will come.

Drive For Competence in Your Network Marketing Business

Has your drive for competence, or lack there of, affecting the growth of your business?

I’ve been reading a wonderful book recently and enjoyed the last chapter so much I just had to write about it.  The book is “The Charge” by Brendon Burchard.  He talks about the 10 human drives and how to ignite them in yourself to lead a vibrant charged life.

Chapter three discusses The Drive for Competence.  I wanted to provide you the cliff notes and how and why people tend to stagnate in their drive for competence and cost associated, especially as you build your network or home based marketing business.

Confidence in Building Your Network Marketing Business

I’d think you would agree that the more competence you have, the more confidence you feel in trying new things and taking on new and bigger challenges.  The more your skills are honed, the more success you have, the more you are confident in building your business with the result you imagined.  Success breeds more success.  However, when we feel inadequate, uncomfortable, anxiety, anger, disappointment, hopelessness, or the fear of failure, it can stop us from obtaining our dreams.  The net effect of feeling incompetent is disastrous:  we stop trying.

Understand. Perform. Master

If you have confidence in those three things; the ability to understand, perform and master certain skills when facing life’s challenges and opportunities, you tend to feel competent.  This is ever so true when building a network marketing business.  Having a great training program, instructor, and mentor is a must for success.  You can’t build it alone.

Consider these statements Brendon makes regarding competence in your life.

1. Your competence level determines what you will give attention to.

2. Your competence level determines your choice of tasks and activities.

3. Your competence level determines you effort level.

4. Your competence level determines how adaptable and resilient you will be.

5. Your competence level determines whether you will lead or follow.

Why Do You Want To Build a Network Marketing Business

Here’s a key learning point:  if we’re going to amplify your ability to gain more competence in any area, you have to asses why you want to learn and what would prevent you from not doing so.  Think about this:

Is the goal of becoming a network marketing professional relevant to your future identity?

Does building your business have intrinsic value?  Is your network marketing business something that is personally motivating and something you enjoy learning how to do?

Is there utilitarian value? Is building your business something useful to pursue for you and your family?

Participating in any endeavor costs time, energy, effort, resources, and willpower that could go to something else.  Opportunity costs.  This is a reality not many understand.  In order to become financially free, you need to give up those actions and habits that are making you financially restricted and learn and apply new skills that help you obtain the goal.

There is also the concept of delay time.  How long do you have wait to see and receive the benefits of building your business?  Let’s face it, 90% of reps get out of the profession with 3 months mainly because they don’t see the benefit of the business, i.e. no return on investment.  This is why it critical to help representatives get their first paycheck as quickly as possible for better retention.  Keep mind that over 80% of the people that get in and stay, typically make little money or just use the products. This is not a bad thing.  They take advantage of the products and a little part time cash, and the organization has product volume.  However, as a leader, a business builder, getting results taking conscience effort, and persistent and consistent daily actions.

How confident do you feel in your ability to control your actions and shape the outcomes in your life?  Psychologist use the term personal “agency” to describe this feeling. If you doubt that you’ll take the consistent actions needed to succeed at something, you’re clearly less likely to ever begin.

Do you have the social support and connections within your company? Are you creating meaningful relationships along the way? Do you leverage your social circle or new group of people to help you stay motivated at doing something new?

Will you have enough time and focus to do a good job learning and doing the business? This is your bandwidth belief. You have to challenge yourself beyond your current capability. What unimportant, non-profit producing activities could you reduce or eliminate, which could be better utilized learning new profit making skills.

Do you have the resources available to successfully build your business? You can build a successful business on a shoestring budget in the beginning. Utilizing a proven system usually costs financial and time investment. Here’s a question I challenge you to answer truthfully, by not using a system, training, listening or reading personal development material, not worth the money for the progress you can make in your business?  You must invest in yourself.  Jim Rohn has said you need to work harder on yourself than you work on your business.

Lastly, you have the autonomy, the decision-making authority to control and ability to make things happen.  You are you’re own boss.  This is a drastic change for the lifelong employee.  Darren Hardy calls it, Making The Shift. You are the CEO, CFO, President, VP, etc. of your business.  Treat it like a big business and it will pay you big money.  At the end of the day ask yourself, would you hire you?

Build Your Competence in Your Network Marketing Business

Internalize these concepts that Brendon states in The Charge.  Nobody starts in the network marketing or home based business with the intent to fail.  There’s a certain mindset you need to have. You must have that, “I’m gonna climb this mountain.  I’ll be waving from the top or dead on the side from trying” mentality. Here’s the thing…you can’t do it alone. Utilize your upline, learn the skills, mentor with a proven leader. Your competence depends on it.  Success breeds success. Get out of your comfort zone, learn new skills, apply, adjust, fail, succeed, build your future and financial freedom. It’s up to you.

Call to Action:  If you haven’t already, find a mentor or a coach.  Utilize your social connections within your business and get help from a proven leader.  Develop or refine your plan and execute. Plan For Success

Here’s the key...have a simple plan. Many new year resolutions are broken because people fail to plan and promise themselves BIG changes that just don’t have a good chance to become true. What’s the point?

Step 1:

One of the things that has helped me is to write things down. With the help of a mentor, develop monthly, weekly and daily goals that are reasonable and realistic goals for your business. What does this look like daily, weekly, monthly? This is your baseline.

Step 2:

Develop a daily routine. This is the most important piece of your plan! If you don’t have a consistent, disciplined routine, something that you execute every day, then you’ll never gain the momentum.

For someone working part-time, here’s a simple way to build it and things to consider.

Break out a legal pad and label 7 sheets with each day of the week and your waking hours of your day.

1. Block out the time dedicated to your regular job for each day. This includes your commute time, time at the office and any time required at home if you take it home with you. I’ll discuss later how you can take advantage of some of this time but block it for now.

2. Block out personal time and time with your family. This includes exercise workouts, dinner time, socials, soccer games, movie night, date night with the spouse, etc.  This is important. This who you are building it for.

3. Mark down any and all team and mentoring calls, webinars, meet-up or networking socials, and meetings you should be apart of during the week.

4. Block out time for writing your blog, marketing, and prospecting calls.

How’s it looking so far?

5. Fit in time to learn new skills and personal development. This should be scheduled out side prime time for prospecting, typically after 9:00pm or early in the morning. Unless you have an appointment to call somebody really late at night, it’s not good to call after 9:00pm.

So do you have it all mapped out? Here are some things to consider:

1. Is there something you need to give up or reduce time for in order be more productive and profitable? Bottom line:  success costs. It comes at a price. You have to give up some of who you are and activities in order to become the business person you want to be.

2. Is the schedule do-able? Can you stick to it? Hopefully it isn’t a drastic change to what you’re already trying to do. Big changes are harder to adjust to.

3. Lastly…place this schedule into your daily planner or smartphone. Use the reminder functions to alert you of appointments. This is also good for your taxes since you can use it at business activities in conjunction with expenses.

Productivity Tips and Tricks

Take advantage of idle time. During your commute turn your vehicle into a mobile classroom. Play audio books, inspirational and business educational audios. A great source for this is Success magazine. They have 3 audio disks of interviews and book summaries each month.

Listen to books by Audible.  I really like anything dealing with mindset.  Your mindset dictates your success.  Listening to these over and over again.

During your lunch hour, get out of the office and make a few calls from leads or follow-up with prospects if you can. Never make these calls at your place of business, make them outside the office. Get out. Make use of your personal time.

Commitment

Work yourself into this schedule and stick to it. High performance people have a plan and execute effectively and efficiently every day. Building a successful, profitable business takes consistency and discipline. It’s up to you.

Why do some people just seem to have the “keys to the kingdom” for success?  We’ve all seen or heard of stories about people of privilege and poverty become successful.  Especially in America, anybody with certain developed character traits can make become successful, wealthy and have a fulfilled life.  So what are those traits?  Does it make where you start? Does coming from an affluent family provide an edge?

Development of Success

You’re not born with these traits.  You are born with the ability to develop these traits.  I’m sure you have heard there are no born leaders, they are taught and developed.  Like anything in life, skills have to be learned, character has to be developed.  It starts at a young age for a bright future but anybody, and I mean anybody, can have a brighter future by developing these character traits regardless of age.

There are two things you must internalize in order to start:

1. You must believe you can change in order for things to change.  Your past does not dictate your future.

2. You must decide to become better in order for things become better.

7 Character Traits to Success

Theses traits come from a study about how children develop and how parents, teachers and influential people (coaches, pastors, mentors, etc.) around them can help develop the character to better prepare children for life.   The more loving, nurturing the environment children are brought up in, the easier it is to develop.  If a child is in poverty, surround by reminders of hardship, the more difficult it can be but development of successful character traits is still possible.  This is where it starts.  However, anybody at an age can hone and develop these traits for a more successful life.

1. Grit.  A person has to have a “stick-to-it” -ness attitude.  Giving up doesn’t get you places.  You gotta follow through and finish what you started.

2. Self-control.  The ability to control one’s emotions, behavior, and desires in order to obtain some reward, or avoid some punishment.

3. Zest.  Defined as living life with a sense of excitement, anticipation, and energy.

4. Social Intelligence.  Describes the exclusively human capacity to effectively navigate and negotiate complex social relationships and environments.

5. Gratitude.   A feeling or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive.  This also includes having gratitude for someone else.

6. Optimism.  Ultimately means one expects the best possible outcome from any given situation.

7. Curiosity.  A quality related to inquisitive thinking, an emotion representing a thirst for knowledge.

Obstacles of Success

The challenges in life are necessary for all of us to develop.  We become better the more challenges we meet and learn from, regardless of outcome, success or failure.  It’s a terrible thing to go through the experience and not receive the lesson.  The ability to overcome obstacles and deal with failure are essential tools for life success.  Successful people seek out challenges, learn from them and push themselves to become better.

Mental Contrasting

Here’s a concept for goal achievement.  Mental contrasting – concentrating on a positive outcome and simultaneously concentrating on the obstacles in the way, while planning how to overcome these obstacles – is the most effective strategy for achieving goals.  How do you develop it?  Games.  For some schools, this concept was successful developed by playing, analyzing strategies and outcomes of chess games.  Learning from games lost.  How they could have done better.  I’m not advocating you should start play chess.  This is just one example.  However, playing games and sports is a great way to develop this trait and many others.

Successful Environments

I make these posts personal because I want you to become better.  This world is a better place with passionate, successful, happy people.

Poverty serves no one.  Being poor is a state of mind.  People of average intelligence and average social economic status have the ability to become more.  To change and become more successful in life, whatever that means to you, starts on the inside; your heart and mind.  It then branches out to the people around you.  Who do chose to influence you?  Don’t let the people that don’t matter, matter in your life.

You can start by reading and studying successful people.  Study wealth.  You see, I don’t believe you are better or worse than I am.  You have a brain, a mind, a soul.  We have 24 hours in a day just as everyone else, wealthy or not, successful or not.  It’s what we chose to do during that time that makes the difference.  If you have the ability to learn new skills, develop your character which will lead to healthier relationships, a wealthier lifestyle and a more fulfilled life…why don’t you?

So what do you have to do to prosper in this day and age?  Is prosperity and abundance something you can have just by mentioning it?   It says in the constitution that, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”  To you catch that last piece, you have the right to pursue happiness.  It’s your right.

But what does that that mean?  Does that mean that you can just think about it and it happens?  Can you chant some kind of mantra, “I believe I’m a millionaire, I believe I’m a millionaire?” and it magically becomes reality?

It just not that easy is it?

The pursuit of happiness means different things to different people but it’s usually comes with prosperity in various forms.

5 Steps to Your Prosperity

Here’s the real deal.  It takes action.  Especially certain types of action on your part to make it happen.  Abundance and prosperity is waiting for you.  Here’s a few things to consider.

1. Learn and learn fast.  We are in an ever change and ever evolving market place.  Some skills you may have learned in the past no longer apply in todays world.  Technology is evolving at a rapid rate.  What are the trends?  Learn new skills.  Don’t be afraid to re-invent yourself.

2. Expand your network.  You can’t grow and prosper on your own.  It take a network.  Mentors, friends, business acquaintances, supportive family members.  Your ability to connect with like minded individuals is necessary for your success.  This can’t be underestimated especially if you are making the shift from employee to entrepreneur.  Robert Kiyosaki has stated, “Successful people look for and build networks, other people are just looking for work.”

3. Forget everything you’ve learned up to this point.  Meaning, what made you a good employee is going to help you little when you are building a business and a fortune.  Also, what may have worked before may not work now, or at least without heavy modification.  Darren Hardy stated in order to make “the shift” you have to give up what made you a good employee in order to become a good entrepreneur.  Your thinking has to shift.  Your actions have to shift.  That happens when you forget the old and embrace new teachings.

4. Learn to take a hit.  Do you think you’ll be face with some rejection and “no”s from people?  Do you believe you’ll attempt some actions and apply new skills with various degrees of failure?  Failure is a part of the learning curve and necessary for your development and success.  Have you ever heard, “If you want success faster, double your rate of failure.”  All successful people take setbacks in stride.  It’s a part of the game of life and developing new skills as an entrepreneur.  Embrace them.  Seek challenges out.

5. Stay curious.  For some of us we lost this concept when we grew up.  Why?  This world is changing fast and the curious, creative and imaginative have an advantage.  Constantly be open to new ideas.  Tip:  Don’t trust your brain; have a journal, paper or digital, to write things down as ideas come to you.

Prosperity Is Up To You

Prosperity shouldn’t be an elusive thing.  It takes hard work.  The first thing is deciding that it’s a worthy thing for you to pursue.  Prosperity manifests in the mind and heart first.  What’s your “Why?”  Never lose sight of the end game; time and financial freedom, having the option to work if you want, spend time with those people important to you, doing great things with your money and time.  You see it really not about the money, you can give all of it away if you want.  To quote Jim Rohn, “for what you become during your pursuit” is what’s important.

Abundance and prosperity is yours.  Take it!

Options For Military Veterans

Know any heroes looking for ways to make money?  The military has been more active in the last 12 years then ever before since WWII.  You probably know or are a Solider, Sailor, Marine, Airman who has been overseas several times, or at the very least, supported the efforts stateside.  These heroes have leadership, skills and aspirations of moving on to bigger and brighter things post military service, whether it be separation after a short commitment or 20+ years of honorable service.  A military person wants options when they start the next chapter in life.

Here’s what a fair amount of military veterans do post-service commitment; find a government of contracting job and utilize the skills they were trained in and continue to contribute to the fight.  Even in today’s world, it seems working for the government is a safe, and sometimes, the only option.  These employment opportunities are not as numerous as people think and they are definitely competitive since many apply.  With the pending “economic cliff” the government is dealing with, no job is safe.  The question to ask is, “is this my passion or am I settling for something just to survive?”

If you are not where you want to be, then keeping an open mind opens opportunity for you.  You will here a lot of people that had a bad experience in the home based or network marketing business.  Here’s the truth, the business didn’t work for them because they didn’t work the business.  More than likely those same people haven’t found success in their current employment either.  The old saying goes, “You don’t ask for business advice from your broke neighbor.”

If you look, you will find all sorts of articles and videos saying the network marketing profession or particular companies are “scams” and are there to take your money.  On the flip side, IF you look for the positive things about the profession, the people, the products or service and individual companies, you will find a deluge of great things.  You find what you are looking for in either case.
